Intermediate InDesign: Building Bigger Documents

Workshop Description:
Learn how to make a brochure or multi-page document (like a user manual, reference guide, or even an ebook) in this intermediate level InDesign class. Adobe Certified Expert Instructor Paul Kelly will teach you how to use master pages, templates, libraries, and styles to speed up your workflow and keep your design consistent across multiple pages. You’ll learn how to import and format a table (or create one from scratch), as well as new ways to work with imported text and graphics. Finally, we’ll review exporting to PDF and look at other possible destinations for your content (such as ebooks, websites, and even apps).

 

Note: This workshop requires a basic understanding of InDesign. Camp Tech’s Desktop Publishing with InDesign class (or equivalent experience) is a prerequisite. Laptops (either Mac or PC are fine) are mandatory for this class, and they must have Adobe InDesign installed on them. You can get a free trial version of the software on Adobe’s website here.

Building on the skills learned in Camp Tech’s Photoshop for Beginners class, we’ll examine more efficient ways to edit and retouch images. Using Photoshop’s sophisticated content-aware tools, you’ll learn how to add background and remove unwanted items from a photo, just like the pros do. Discover how to make professional adjustments using layers and masks (so you can isolate and change certain parts of a picture) and utilize more advanced aspects of the program including working with your digital camera’s RAW files. We’ll also explore many of the ways that working with non-destructive smart objects can increase flexibility and make your life easier.

 

Note: This workshop requires a basic understanding of Photoshop and layers. Camp Tech’s Photoshop for Beginners class (or equivalent experience) is a prerequisite. Laptops (either Mac or PC are fine) are mandatory for this class, and they must have Adobe Photoshop CC (not Photoshop Elements) installed on them. Attendees will walk away knowing how to do all of this, plus create mobile-friendly email templates, through the delightfully easy-to-use MailChimp service. Adobe Illustrator is a remarkably powerful program used by artists and graphic designers to create scalable graphics for print and web. Illustrator is used to to build everything from simple icons, logos and business cards to complete illustrations and packaging industry artwork. Adobe Certified Expert Paul Kelly will teach you how to create basic shapes, select and edit objects, perform transformations, work with type, and draw with the Pencil and Pen tools. You’ll learn how Illustrator works with companion products Photoshop and InDesign, and how to set up a workflow for moving between the programs in Adobe Creative Suite.

 

No previous Illustrator experience or graphic design skills necessary. If you don’t have Illustrator, you can download the 30-day free trial from Adobe’s website right before the class.
